Alloy 6082 is a medium-strength, heat-treatable aluminum alloy from the Al-Mg-Si family, similar to 6061 but with slightly higher strength and better corrosion resistance. It is widely used in structural and engineering applications across Europe (where it is more common than 6061).
T6 temper offers a yield strength of ~260-310 MPa (comparable to mild steel but much lighter).
Higher silicon content improves strength after heat treatment.
Performs well in harsh environments (better than many steels).
Resistant to seawater and industrial atmospheres, especially when anodized.
Can be welded using TIG, MIG, and resistance welding (similar to 6061).
Machinability is good but slightly less than 6061 due to higher silicon content.
Solution heat-treated and artificially aged (T6) for peak strength.
Can also be supplied in T4 (naturally aged) or O (annealed) tempers for forming.
Density: ~2.7 g/cm³ (same as other aluminum alloys).
Fatigue resistance is better than 6061, making it suitable for load-bearing structures.
Can be extruded, forged, or rolled into complex shapes.
Often used in structural beams, automotive parts, and marine components.
